Job Description

Let’s move some cars.

As a Virginia Transportation Corporation Auto Hauler, you will be responsible for transporting vehicles between ports, rail yards, terminals, and dealerships in our midwest and local lanes. You will coordinate with our operations, administration, and dispatch teams to ensure safe, efficient, and timely delivery of our customers’ vehicles.

There is a 5.5 days on / 1.5 day off commitment to running the Midwest region but in combination with the local freight lanes and your place of residence, you may have several opportunities for seeing the house during the week as well.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Load and secure cars on trailers in a safe, efficient, and timely manner
  • Transport vehicles between locations
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with all other VTC team members
  • Perform tasks independently with minimal supervision
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain all required driver logs
  • Maintain a clean driving record, Class A CDL and DOT Medical Card
  • Active TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card preferred but not required
  • Must be able to safely and professionally operate all VTC equipment according to established VTC, DOT, and FMCSA rules, regulations and policies.
  • Must recognize that DOT and FMCSA rules and regulations are issued as minimum guidelines. VTC policies will always meet the DOT and FMCSA rules and regulations and will often exceed those minimum guidelines to promote best practices for the Auto Hauler’s safety and the safety of the general public.
  • Must pass a controlled substance test in accordance with FMCSA Section 382.301(a) prior to employment and continue to pass alcohol and/or controlled substance tests at random or as a result of Reasonable Suspicion in accordance with FMCSA Sections 382.303-311.

Requirements

Do you have what it takes to be a VTC Auto Hauler?

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Valid CDL Class A Driver’s license
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record
  • Minimum 2 years of CDL Class A driving experience
  • Minimum 6 months of Auto Hauling experience
  • You must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals, to report and respond to officials and to make entries on reports and records
  • TWIC / Passport preferred but not required

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, twist, squat, stand and climb as required to secure load
  • Requires standing, stretching, walking, stooping, pushing and/or pulling in an outdoor environment
  • Requires excellent visual acuity and manual dexterity
  • Requires use of safety equipment that may include non-slip shoes, gloves, and other protective garments and equipment
  • Requires frequent driving for long periods of time
