About the Auto Hauler Training Program
Explore a rewarding auto hauling career with Virginia Transportation’s Auto Hauler Training Program! It’s perfect for folks who are already pretty skilled at CDL-A driving but want to join the elite squad of professional auto haulers.
Our training isn’t your typical orientation – it turns you into a full-fledged auto hauler, not just someone who can load cars onto a truck. Get ready for hands-on learning that covers teamwork, communication, vehicle upkeep, safety, quality, planning routes, and loading know-how.
Whether you need full training, or a refresher course, your existing skill set and learning progression during the program determines the length of your training.
We’re currently hosting training in West Warwick, Rhode Island, and we’ll even help with travel assistance and keep you fueled with breakfasts and lunches on your training day.

Training Program Requirements
Our Auto Hauler Training Program is for otherwise highly qualified and experienced CDL-A drivers who wish to learn the art of hauling cars.
- Valid & clean CDL-A required
- Minimum 2 years of CDL-A driving experience required
- Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol Screening
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals, to report and respond to officials and to make entries on reports and records.
